ATIC Student Computer Cluster

MIT Room 7-143 is a computer cluster designed for use by MIT students with disabilities.    Here, we provide specialized equipment and access to the latest assistive technologies for students to use anytime.   A sampling of current technologies/equipment provided are listed below.    This list is not comprehensive, nor does it include technologies that we provide to students to use directly on their personal computers, in labs and in other academic environments.

  • Document and flatbed Scanners
  • Braille embosser
  • Magnification devices (desktop and portable) and software
  • Alternative keyboards and pointing devices
  • Power height-adjustable tables and ergonomic chairs
  • Software for Scanning,  Reading, and Optical Character Recognition (OCR):  Kurzweil 1000/3000, GhostReader, VisioVoice, OmniPage
  • Voice recognition software: Dragon NaturallySpeaking, Dragon Dictate for Mac
  • Screen reading software: JAWS, VoiceOver
  • DAISY book reading software: Dolphin EasyReader, GH ReadHear, CAR (Central Access Reader)
