Repetitive Strain Injury (RSI) Prevention

ATIC is one of a few places at MIT to offer information and resources focused on the prevention of computer-related Repetitive Strain Injury.  The MIT informational brochure "RSI - What you Absolutely Need to Know" lists all these resources.  

ATIC (in Room 7-143) offers various technology tools that have proven helpful in alleviating or preventing some of the symptoms of RSI:

  • Stretch Break Proopens in new window is a break and exercise software application for Windows or Macintosh provided by MIT.   The software reminds you to take periodic breaks from your computer and provides stretches and ergonomic information. It includes a module with ergonomic workstation setup diagrams and tips. Launch the application and select Ergo Hints.
  • Keyboards and Mice - for individuals seeking an alternative to the standard input devices.   
  • Speech Recognition is an assistive technology that can be helpful if typing becomes difficult.
